Why do I need this medicine?
Mebeverine is used as an adjunct to treat spasms of the stomach or intestine, particularly spasms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

IBS refers to a disorder that involves abdominal pain and cramping, as well as changes in bowel movements such as constipation or diarrhoea.

Mebeverine belongs to a group of medicines called antispasmodics.

How do I take this medicine?
Take Mebeverine exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Mebeverine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue with Mebeverine even if there are signs of improvement. Do not stop this medicine unless instructed by the doctor.

Take Mebeverine preferably 20 minutes before meals.

If you have been given tablets, swallow the tablet whole. Do not cut, chew or crush the tablet.

If you have been given capsules, swallow the capsule whole. Do not chew the capsule.

If you have been given oral liquid, use the measuring spoon to measure out your prescribed dose. Shake the liquid well before use.

When should I not use this medicine?
Do not take Mebeverine if you have paralytic ileus (a condition where the small bowel does not work properly).

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have:
- liver or kidney problems
- heart disease
- porphyria (a rare blood pigment disorder)

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What side effects could I experience?
Mebeverine may make you dizzy. Do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

The side effects with Mebeverine may include stomach and intestinal disturbances, headache, difficulty in sleeping, loss of appetite and decreased heart rate.

Alert your doctor if you develop skin rash, itching and swelling. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.

Alert your doctor if you experience any other side effects while being treated with Mebeverine.

Can I take this with other medicines?
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?
Do not store above 30°C.

Keep away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
