Ferrous Sulphate 200mg Tablets 28

Contents

Each tablet contains 200mg dried Ferrous sulphate equivalent to 65mg of ferrous iron.

Also contains: spray dried liquid glucose, sorbic acid.

Indication

For the treatment and prevention of iron-deficiency anaemia

Dosage

Take this medication orally either once daily for preventative treatment or 2-3 daily for treatment of iron-deficient anaemia, with water.

These tablets should not be taken within one hour before or two hours after eating or drinking the following products: tea, coffee, milk, eggs and whole grains as they can reduce their effectiveness.

Caution

Use with caution in

• inflammatory conditions of the intestines
• patients with difficulty in absorbing certain sugars (glucose or galactose)
• patients taking tetracyclines, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, bisphosphates, penicillamine, colestyramine, entacapone, antacids, methyldopa, levodopa and medicines containing zinc, calcium, phosphorus or trientine.
• It should not be used in: patients with allergies to ferrous sulphate or any of the other ingredients, those with anaemia caused by anything other than iron deficiency, those receiving repeated blood transfusions, those receiving iron via the intravenous route, those who have ulcerative colitis or any other inflammatory condition of the bowels, patients with excess iron in their blood.
• Keep out of the reach of children.
• Always read the patient leaflet before taking the medication.
